Copper and copper alloys such as brass may not be used in contact with a food that has a pH below 6 such as vinegar, fruit juice, or wine. Copper is not approved for use in certain alcoholic beverages. When copper and copper alloy surfaces contact acidic foods and juices, copper may be leached into the food product.
