Inspector notes: Observed a reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration unit under the 3-compartment sink in the kitchen. The reverse osmosis system feeds a tank and water tap. These is no observed approved testable continuous pressure backflow prevention assembly downstream of the unit between the unit and copper piping. The person in charge indicated that the system was installed +2 years before inspection. Person in charge was informed that an approved testable continuous pressure backflow prevention assembly (such as a RPZ or spill proof vacuum breaker) is required between the system and copper piping because RO units can acidify water which can strip copper from piping. The establishment may also remove the RO cartridge, if the RO cartridge is removed an approved testable continuous pressure backflow prevention assembly would not be required
